Join us for a season at Greenwood

Greenwood is one expression of The Way of the Beloved — an anchor place where the rhythms of prayer, work and hospitality are lived in shared form.

On the beautiful Ardnamurchan Peninsula, we seek to integrate worship, labour and study in an ordered and attentive way of life. Guests come seeking rest and renewal. Behind that welcome is a steady rhythm sustained by a small, intentional community.

The Invitation

We are prayerfully inviting two people, either a married couple or a small group of two (or three) friends, to join us for a structured season of shared life.

This is not simply volunteering. It is participation in cultivating a house of prayer.

The Commitment

We are seeking a commitment of six to twelve months, with the possibility of longer by mutual discernment.

It takes time to understand the land, enter the rhythm of Greenwood, and grow into the responsibilities that sustain this place. For that reason, shorter stays are unlikely to be suitable.

This is a purposeful and ordered season.

The Work

We ask for approximately 30 hours per week per household, shared between you in a way that reflects your strengths and energy.

The contribution may include:

  • Cottage changeovers and preparing spaces for guests

  • Gardening and stewardship of seventy acres

  • Grounds and property maintenance

  • Office and ministry administration

We are looking for those with practical skills; able to turn their hand to general maintenance, light repairs, and outdoor work. Experience with tools such as a chainsaw is helpful, though not required.

Work is usually concentrated across four or five days. We seek consistency rather than over-extension. There are clear stopping points. Accommodation and utilities are provided.

We share two community meals each week as part of our common life. Outside of these times, couples/households manage their own meals.

Our Common Life

Greenwood is shaped by The Way of the Beloved — a rule of life grounded in contemplative prayer, attentive labour and shared responsibility. We gather daily for Morning Prayer, and we celebrate Holy Communion each Sunday. Participation in this rhythm is expected.

This is not an intense communal experiment. Much of daily life retains independence and personal space. The peninsula is beautiful. Life is quiet and ordered.

We seek to live attentively rather than hurriedly.

A Season of Formation

We believe that tending land, preparing cottages, strengthening systems, and serving guests can participate in heavenly realities when offered in Christ. For some, this may be a season to deepen contemplative prayer, integrate work and worship, reflect on vocation and grow in steadiness and hidden service.

Formation here is not curriculum-driven. It unfolds through shared responsibility, faithfulness in ordinary tasks, and participation in prayer.

The Dispositions We Seek

We are prayerfully looking for those who:

  • Love the worship of God and desire more of his peace and presence

  • Desire to grow in contemplative attentiveness

  • Are emotionally steady and peaceable

  • Appreciate ordered life and clear expectations

  • Can work independently without close supervision

  • Take satisfaction in careful, well-completed work

  • Are willing to live within an established rhythm

  • Are physically able for moderate outdoor labour

  • Freely choose this season and are not under financial strain

A Wider Horizon

Greenwood serves as an anchor within the wider life of The Way of the Beloved. While some may share a season here, the call of this way of life is not confined to one location. We hope that those who join us may carry its rhythms into their own contexts in due course.

Who This May Suit

This opportunity may suit:

A married couple seeking a shared season of service and prayer, two or three friends desiring to live intentionally for a time, those between professional chapters, those discerning their vocation, or those who long for integration rather than fragmentation

It may not suit those seeking rapid change, high visibility, or an intense communal programme.
